XXTRA Special and Free™ (Women Taking Responsibility and Action are “XXTRA” Special and Free) supports programs, internships, scholarships and other activities that advance the engagement of women of color (WOC) in democracy as creators, leaders and engaged citizens. We work with public and private sector partners. Our programs empower participants, academic partners and sponsors to address real life, career, educational and policy matters relevant to women and girls of color with passion, accountability, accuracy and cultural authenticity.
The XXTRA Special and Free online, public affairs, media, and policy platform is the only nonprofit public affairs platform exclusively covering public policy and other issues relevant to WOC. The platform serves as a gathering place and distribution center for original and curated content about, by and for WOC.
This program sponsors WOC students from Spelman College and other colleges and universities in summer internships in Washington, DC and on Capitol Hill. Pictured Left: DeKiah Baxter Spelman College student and Miss South Carolina (2018).
This high-potential talent program provides research-based public-policy insights and customized program interventions to reverse the underrepresentation of women and girls in the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) disciplines and professions. Our priority signature program has been developed as a specific response to public and private sector challenges associated with “leaky pipes” and the intersectionality of ethnicity, class, gender, and other forces that impede the advancement of WOC as C-suite executives.
